UCWDC Competition Guide
The United Country Western Dance Council (UCWDC) is an international organization that promotes Country Western dance through festivals and competitions held all over the world.
We offer competition in Pro-Am, Couples, Line, and Teams.
Competition Divisions
- Pro-Am – A professional teacher partners with their student (amateur).
- Pro-Am Mixed-Role – Traditional dance roles (men lead, women follow) are not required.
- Couples – Two people dancing together where both are being judged.
- Line – Solo line dancers competing individually.
- Teams – Small or large teams competing together.
Our divisions cover every age group and skill level, from Newcomer to Masters, and welcome dancers of all ages—from young children to adults.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What category should I enter?
A: Always check with your instructor. They will guide you to the best division.
- New to dancing? We offer four tiers of Newcomer, so there’s always a perfect place to start.
- Already dancing country or ballroom but never competed? You’ll most likely begin in the Newcomer Division, though your experience may place you higher.
Q: I’m a ballroom competitor interested in trying country. Where do I start?
A: Crossing over to country is easy and fun! Contact us, and we’ll help you find the right starting level. Many dances overlap with ballroom styles—Waltz, Cha Cha, East Coast Swing, and West Coast Swing—plus you’ll discover exciting country favorites like Triple Two, Polka, Night Club, and Two Step.
